Enrollment numbers held fairly steady at Lewis & Clark-Berthold Public School as 260 students filled the desks during the first week of the 2010-2011 school year.

Last year’s opening week enrollment was 265 students.

The first graders share honors with the sophomores for having the largest class size, with 24 students each.

Sixteen students arrived to start their school days as kindergartners.

The elementary school welcomed 133 students total, with 16 second graders, 18 third graders, 19 fourth graders, 17 fifth graders and 23 sixth graders.

Two students joined the second grade class, three new fifth graders enrolled, and one new sixth grader arrived.

Junior high numbers increased slightly over the previous year, with 45 students arriving last week compared to 41 during the first week of school in August 2009. Teachers welcomed 23 students in seventh grade and 22 in eighth grade, including three newcomers.

High school enrollment remained the same as last year, with 82 Bombers taking their seats in grades 9 through 12. The freshmen class was joined by one new boy for a total of 23 students. Numbers in the sophomore class were boosted by two new students, while the roster of juniors stood at 15.

The Class of 2011 has 20 members working toward their high school diplomas.

Six new staff members are walking the halls and working with students in the Berthold school. At the elementary school, Alechia Neubauer is teaching first grade. Dawn Eide is instructing business classes for the secondary students, and Clare Rodriguez is handling the science classes. Debby Moen was hired as a counselor for the school, while Jennifer Miller is the technology coordinator and Allyson Mayer is the speech and language pathologist.
