Amish brothers 'living the dream' on the prairie...

Two Amish brothers from west-central Wisconsin spent last week  in North Dakota, salvaging farm equipment on the G.W. Patterson farm.

Two Amish brothers from west-central Wisconsin spent last week  in North Dakota, salvaging farm equipment on the G.W. Patterson farm.

If they thought the equipment was usable, they set it aside for transport back to Wisconsin. If not, the metal was cut into pieces with a torch and hauled away as scrap metal.

In addition, a farm implement could be cut up with part of it saved and the other part loaded on the scrap heap.

“This is living the dream,” Ivan Helmuth said. “Back home, we don’t see this kind of stuff.”

When Helmuth and his brother Jonas got started, they had 240 various pieces of farm machinery.  They wrapped up Saturday.

Helmuth explained that being Amish, it’s important to get as much equipment as possible back into production.
