Forty years ago, the community suffered its only fatality of Vietnam

By all accounts, Larry Jacobson of Norma was a hardworking and loyal young man who had a future as a farmer or mechanic, with a family of his own. Instead, Larry’s life ended 40 years ago on August 26, 1970, when the helicopter he was riding was shot down by enemy forces in Ba Xugen Province, South Vietnam.

Cafe reopens downtown

School Board makes band a required class for 5th grade

All Kenmare Elementary School fifth graders will participate in band beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, with all fifth and sixth grade students required to join band beginning the following year, following a 4-3 vote of the Kenmare School Board during a regular meeting held October 19th.

Blacksmith creates decorative gate for Coulee Cemetery

When Rick and Karen Olson of Deer Park, Washington, made their annual visit to see friends and family in Kenmare, Minot and Donnybrook this year, they also honored relatives’ graves in the Coulee Cemetery with flowers. Permanent flowers, created in iron, painted in bold colors, and attached to a new iron gate for the cemetery, designed and built by Rick.

Success comes quickly during area moose hunt

David Berg of Epping, 63, drew his North Dakota moose license this year for area M10 in the northwest corner of the state, one of the 70 lucky hunters for that area who started their season on Friday. David’s season ended Friday, too, with a 40-inch bull moose loaded on his trailer, despite all his best intentions.

Enbridge to pay $275,000 to Berthold for infrastructure needs

City's well water being trucked to the oilfield

The quality of Kenmare’s city water improved drastically last December when water provided by the city of Minot started flowing through the taps, as distributed through the Northwest Area Water Supply pipeline. However, the old water has found new life in the oil field, and the city has benefited from a few extra dollars in its coffers.
