With one roof in place and the second roof scheduled for shingles this week, the two new 12-plexes along Division Street in Kenmare are starting to take shape.

On Monday, SW Design Build developer Tom Serie listed a concise schedule of activities that should be taking place at the construction site during the next few weeks, beginning with the building on the west side of the lot which is owned by Gooseneck Implement.

“That one is ready for the rough plumbing and electrical work inside,” he said. “They should be starting that on Tuesday [July 31st].”

He estimated two weeks to complete that work, along with installation of the sprinkler systems for that unit.

That will be followed by a week’s worth of insulation installation in the building, followed by three weeks scheduled for hanging, taping, mudding and painting sheetrock.

Vinyl flooring for the units’ kitchens and bathrooms should be laid beginning the second week in September, followed by trim work the next week.

“When that’s done, we’re going to take a week for carpet and a week for cleaning,” he said.

According to Serie, work will follow the same progression in the second building, which is owned by the Kenmare Community Development Corporation, about three or four weeks behind the first building. Shingling was slated to begin Tuesday on the KCDC 12-plex.

“When the roof is on that building, then the siders will come back and do both buildings, about a week from now,” said Serie.

He expected the electricians, plumbers and heating crews to move to the second building immediately after they completed rough-ins for the first building.

And potential renters expecting access to garages for their vehicles and storage will not be disappointed.

“These will have garages,” Serie said. “As soon as Farden [Construction] gets the dirt work done, the carpenters will build the garages.”

He expected that part of the project to get started within the next three weeks.

An open house could be scheduled after the first building is finished in October to showcase the apartments for the public as they become available to renters. Further details about the event will be advertised in The Kenmare News at a later date.

The back side of the apartment buildings will soon be host to unattached
garages to be constructed for the residents' use.  The apartment buildings
are located on the south side of Division Street in Kenmare.
