scheduled for May 31-June 2 in West Fargo.

The Kenmare-Bowbells-MLS fastpitch softball team will make history next week when they participate in the first-ever North Dakota Class B fastpitch softball tournament, scheduled for West Fargo.
The squad earned a berth at last week’s regional tournament, played in Grafton, with teams from the northern half of the state facing off to claim the four coveted positions.
K-B-MLS started the tournament with a decisive win over Westhope-Newburg on Friday, routing the Sioux 25-3. Emily Abernathey pitched the win, with Kennedy Fricke coming in to relieve her in the fourth inning.
Later that day, the K-B-MLS girls played Thompson with Abernathey on the mound and battled to an 8-9 loss settled in the final inning. “There were very few errors in that game,” said K-B-MLS head coach Jesse Radzwill. “It was a matter of two very good teams against each other.”
Rain and soggy field conditions made Saturday’s games more difficult, but the local team trumped Des Lacs-Burlington again this season 12-2, with the game called after four innings on the 10-run rule. “Justice Brown did well at catching in the muddy conditions,” Radzwill said. “She did some fantastic work!” Abernathey pitched this win as well.
Thompson won the tournament, with Grafton placing second and K-B-MLS third. Pembina County North eliminated Westhope-Newburg for fourth place.
The K-B-MLS squad will start play in the state tournament on Friday, May 31st, in the afternoon, and continue playing June 1st and 2nd. “They’ll play out all eight places,” Radzwill explained.
The K-B-MLS team is in its second year as a co-op fastpitch softball program. Team members include 7th grader Zoe Smalls, freshmen Emily Abernathey, Justice Brown and Macy Sundahl, sophomores Shania Brackenbury, Kennedy Fricke, Codee Gilbertson and Chelsea Nelson, and seniors Ashley Barnhart, Kim Fisk and Sydney Wheeling.
